The Benefits Of Good Fats

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

We have been hearing a lot about Omega3 fatty acids and how they are good for us.  Do you know why?

Well, up until the 1960s we really did not know why this was such an important supplement for our health.

Omega3 fatty acids are found in fish and flax seed.  Fish oil contains compounds that absorb or block triglycerides from causing damage.  Also, the fish oil has been shown to improve the electrical conductivity of the heart and has been shown to be a mild blood thinner.

Study after study has shown that fish oil works!  In a multi billion dietary supplement industry, most of what we take has been shown to not do what was initially promised.  One of the latest victims is the zinc nasal swabs. How shocked we were to find out we could lose our sense of smell from sticking zinc up our noses!

Lesson learned is just because something is “natural” does not make it safe to take unless we truly understand what it is supposed to do for us and what its potential side effects are.  Even natural supplements have side effects.

Maybe we need to look at all supplements as drugs and treat them with the same respect that we treat our prescription medications with.
